Sale of Empress Josephine's Jewels
Announcement--For Sale Ornaments the Property of the Late Empress Josephine.
New Lady’s Magazine Vol. I Issue I at 60-61. (1815)
A magnificent suite of ornaments, the property of the late empress Josephine, were lately consigned to an eminent lapidary in this country, for sale; they consist of a diadem, tiara, aigrette, rings, and brooches; the diadem adorned with matchless opals, surrounded with brilliants, is of rare and beautiful workmanship. A sapphire brooch is of unrivalled size; the stone being an inch and a half, by one inch. These superb jewels were valued at fifty thousand guineas, and transmitted hither by Eugene Beauharnois, to raise that sum towards paying off the demands on his mother’s estate, agreeable to her last will.
